GM Hikaru Nakamura
2007 National Open Champion
Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura finished a clear first to take home the Edmondson
Cup and nearly $6,000 in cash. He defeated IM Renier Gonzalez, who had started
the last round with the only perfect score. IM Gonzalez had defeated 4 Grandmasters
before taking on young Hikaru. His 5 point finish tied him with GM Viktor Kortchnoi,
IM Enrico Sevillano, GM Gregory Serper, IM Josh Friedel and GM Andranik Matikozyan
for second through seventh. Each won over $1,000. Over 700 players participated in
the National Open, and almost 200 more played in various side events.
Sylvia Yang took the trophy in the Susan Polgar World Open for Girls and Christopher Kao
took the Boys' trophy. More results are available at the
